Granola is a type of cold cereal made from rolled oats and an assortment of other ingredients. It was originally a trade name, during the health food craze of the 1800s, when the product was originally developed.

My favorites are Bare Naked Granola Fruit And Nut
Fruit and Nut is a delicious, soft-baked blend of whole grains, hearty nuts and tasty fruits.
My other favorite is La Brea Bakeries Granola it is fantastic!!
While rolled oats are the core of granola, they are far from the only ingredient. Other grains may be used as well for additional texture and nutrition, and dried fruit is a common ingredient as well. Seeds and nuts may be added as well to elevate the protein level of the granola.
These ingredients are toasted so that they are crispy, and stirred frequently so that they do not stick together. Some clumping usually naturally occurs, but these clumps are not allowed to get very large. After toasting and cooling, the granola is packed in airtight containers so that it will not become soggy or stale. It is an excellent idea to use an airtight container at home, as well, unless the granola is going to be consumed quickly.
Some people eat granola as a breakfast food, either plain or sprinkled on top of fresh fruit,yogurt, or milk. When granola is made as a health food, it can be an excellent breakfast, since it usually contains a good balance of and protein to start the day. Others may use granola as a quick snack food, since it often elevates energy levels. Hikers and campers tend to be particularly fond of granola, since it packs very well.

As a kid growing up, my favorite dessert was a rich, creamy, lemony chiffon pie. I loved to help my Mom make it. I got to lick the can of sweetened condensed milk and then lick the bowl of the great pie filling. As far as lemon desserts go, this is my all time favorite. And it is very simple and quick to make.

Adapted from the Baked Cookbook, this coffee cake is AMAZING. Almost gooey near the chocolate, cinnamon swirl, this sour cream cake produces a tender, light, and fluffy crumb. A melt-in-your-mouth crumb. Plus, there’s two layers of the chocolate cinnamon swirl running throughout the cake (although the layers kind of run together), which adds a whole new level of moisture and yumminess. And, as if that weren’t enough, the whole cake is topped with a chocolate crumb topping.

The “East 62d Street Lemon Cake” became famous from the 1970 New York Times article below. Maida Heatter included it in her cookbooks and credited her daughter, Toni Marks, with its invention. It became a favorite of the chic set after Craig Claiborne printed the recipe in the New York Times. “I hear that Bill Blass and Nancy Reagan asked for it,” Heatter notes. We have been trying different Apple desserts. Earlier this week we tried the Apple Hill Cake. That was great!! No peeling the apples, just put everything in the bowl, stir and bake. Very easy and tasty. See recipe.
Then we tried the Apple Upside down cake from Food and Wine, Thanksgiving Issue. It was good but I am not sure it was worth all the work.
Today we tried Carmel Apple Tartlets ( Bon Appetit May 2009) and they were too die for. I have included the recipe here. Not too sweet. The crust was like a buttery shortbread cookie. One of the best apple desserts I have ever had!

Today I made this wonderful pie and took it to work. It was a hit. The crust was flaky and the pie itself was creamy, like a pumpkin mousse. The top was crunchy with the walnuts and sweet. Very tasty. I used European butter for the crust. I really think it makes a difference.
